The new iPhones had a dramatic impact on app downloads in September—but not in the direction you might think. We saw a sharp decline in app download volume, down 21 percent to 6.4 million daily downloads, the lowest volume since last September. Seems like consumers anticipating an upgrade to one of the new iPhones at the end of the month cut back on their app downloads. It makes sense: why go looking for new apps when you know you’re about to upgrade? Similarly, the release of iOS 9 and resulting flurry of app upgrades issued by developers may have contributed…..
The month of August marked a watershed moment for the Fiksu Indexes, as the Cost Per Loyal User (CPLU) index surpassed $4 for the first time. That’s a 36 percent rise since July and a 117 percent increase since last year. August’s results reflect increased activity across the world of mobile marketing, indicating that advertisers are allocating more money toward mobile and trading higher costs for greater audience precision. The takeaway? Advertisers need to continue spending smart in order to target the right mobile audiences in this increasingly competitive app marketing ecosystem. On the app download front, the Fiksu App…..
Audioboom, a London-based podcast network, allows users to listen to, record and share sound files via desktop and mobile app. The company has more than 4 million registered users worldwide. Back in September of 2014, Audioboom was hoping to make a splash with their newly re-designed iOS app–and splash they did. With Fiksu’s help, Audioboom was able to reach the top 10 in both the US and UK App Store. As you can read in our complete case study, they were also able to drive more than one million downloads in just a few short months. “We’ve hit every target…..
As the largest independent source of mobile audience data, we’re excited to report that we’ve just eclipsed the 5 billion download mark. In case you’re wondering just how much 5 billion really is, it’s more than the combined population of all seven countries where we have offices around the globe. That includes the US, UK, Finland, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, and Germany. Our official download number 5,000,000,000 came for our client Le Figaro, a longstanding French newspaper who we’re excited to be helping establish a strong presence on mobile. When looking at iOS-only downloads, we’ve now tracked an impressive 1…..
There have been some rumblings recently that Apple made a change to how apps get featured within the App Store’s “Featured” tab. This came after Apple changed the names of the “New” and “What’s Hot” lists to “Best New Games” and “All Time Greats”, amongst others. Previously, it was known that download velocity and volume could impact one’s placement in these “Featured” charts, presumably due to a ranking algorithm that looked at this data in real-time. For instance, an app that received 100K installs in a day was likely to get one or more features, such as in “What’s Hot”. The assumption…..
UPDATE: As of about 4:30pm ET, the App Store seems to be working again and Apple’s Service page reports that it’s running. Back to promoting those apps, everyone — with an eye on the stability of the app store, just to be safe. Original post below. As you may have heard, Apple is experiencing an outage right now that is severely limiting users’ ability to download apps (as well as music, books, movies, and more). TheNextWeb has a good running account of the situation. App marketers with active campaigns on iOS should weigh their options immediately, considering the impact of wasted spend on…..
Lately, free-to-play games have taken a lot of heat. In just the past few months, Pocket Gamerdebated the viability of the model on its website, and Business Insider published an article referring to the consumer experience with freemium games as “downright cruel.” Even South Park got in on the conversation with the episode “Freemium isn’t Free,” in which it was theorized that the “-mium” suffix originates from the Latin for “not really.” Yet despite this criticism, there’s little to indicate that the freemium model is losing steam. Free-to-play games retain a firm grasp on top of the App Store charts,…..
Yesterday, Apple released their annual rankings of the year’s top grossing apps—and, we’re thrilled to say, Fiksu was well represented. In fact, 41 out of the top 50 and a jaw-dropping 9 out of the top 10 apps have promoted their apps through Fiksu’s systems. Besides bragging rights, the biggest take away from Apple’s release is the power of data in attracting the right users. Fiksu leverages its enormous—and continually growing—reservoir of data to target and ultimately acquire the type of high-value users who drive monetization. And well, the results speak for themselves. The complete 2014 rankings can be seen…..
The App Store is already buzzing this holiday season, with our latest index showing app downloads hit an all-time high in October. Tracking the average aggregate daily download volume of the top 200 free iOS apps, the App Store Competitive Index reached 7.8 million downloads. This was an incredible 42 percent rise over last month, and a 39 percent increase over 2013. The release of the iPhone 6 and availability of iOS 8 undoubtedly led to this high volume of activity as users updated their new devices with their favorite apps. For app marketers, a key takeaway from October is…..
