After weeks of breathless conjecture — will they introduce a new iPhone? (no!) or home automation? (yes!) — Apple used yesterday’s WWDC keynote to unveil a slew of changes and updates to OS X, iOS, and the App Store, but no new hardware. Instead, the focus of the event was squarely on developers. Yes, new features like improvements to iMessage, family sharing, and OS X to iOS AirDrop are nice updates for consumers. But in a nod to how important the developer ecosystem is to maintaining their position, Apple hammered home the message that this year’s updates are focused on developers,…..

Facebook’s mobile app ads have changed the game in the mobile advertising world. Since being introduced a little over a year ago, these ads have had a significant impact on app marketers and industry players. Fiksu recently conducted a study of user acquisition campaigns for close to 300 iOS and Android apps and found Facebook to be the most cost effective source of mobile app user acquisition. Despite being more expensive upfront, the study revealed that Facebook provides the highest purchasing rate and the lowest cost per purchaser when compared to banner and video networks. If you’re interested in learning…..
April “showered” marketers whose apps sit outside of the top 200 with a great opportunity to get increased visibility from their marketing spend as the big brands dialed back on spending before gearing up for their summer campaigns. The Indexes saw an increase in app marketing costs as dollars continued to pour in throughout April, especially from small and mid-sized publishers. Meanwhile, the App Store Competitive Index, which measures download volume among the top 200 ranked apps, dropped 25 percent, to 5.34M from March’s 7.1M peak. It should be noted that this is not reflective of the broader app landscape,…..

This week marks Internet Week NY, an annual celebration of technology’s impact on business and culture—including of course, the impact of mobile. It’s interesting to note that while Americans are increasingly spending more time on mobile, advertisers have yet to fully capitalize on the medium. In 2014, US advertisers are expected to spend just 7 cents per US adult on mobile, compared to 83 cents on print, despite the fact thatmobile CPM rates are the second lowest among all advertising mediums. A case study presented at the recent MMA Forum NY revealed that this imbalance in spending is not leading…..
A billion is a not a number that is thrown around all too often, so it’s a milestone worth noting. Fiksu recently surpassed the 1,000,000,000 mark in loyal app users we have helped our clients acquire over the past several years. Seeing as how the average daily time spent on mobile in 2013 was 2 hours and 21 minutes (an almost 500% increase since 2010) it’s not surprising then that nearly half those 1 billion users were acquired in 2013 alone. While loyal app users can be defined differently by different apps, in this case, a loyal app user is…..

It’s no surprise that a recent Millward Brown study revealed that American’s daily time spent on mobile devices now outpaces TV. With that in mind, MITX’s recent Mobile Summit highlighted “the change from mobile as a device to mobile as a behavior.” With more than a million apps in the app store, mobile users have no shortage of choices. Likewise, with time spent on mobile devices continuing to increase, brands have no shortage of people to target. Volume is evident, but value is little trickier. Which begs the question: what does success for user acquisition look like for any given…..
